Our pre-school has a Committee which deals with matters of governance, finance and recruitment. There are 3 core members as well as the manager who comprise the Committee, with Simon Lewis acting as Chair.
Committee meetings take place once a term, with extra fundraising meetings being called if necessary.
Parents are actively encouraged to become part of the Committee. Working in partnership ensures your child’s first educational experiences outside of home are rich and fulfilling.
A primary function of the pre-school Committee is fundraising. We are a charity pre-school and depend on fundraising to purchase up to date resources for our children. Parental involvement is vital to the success of enjoyable fundraisers, like our Scooter Scampers, Ark in the Park sponsored walks and luxury Christmas hampers!
I am the Chair of the Ark Pre-school Committee which oversees the direction, staff, facilities and finances of the pre-school. I am a pharmacist and work part-time for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency as well as working part-time at CityCoast Church. I am married to Ruth and we have 4 adult children, two of whom are married. We enjoy walking and visiting historical buildings and gardens.
I have always had a passion to see people reach their full potential and dreams in life, no matter who they are and where they have come from, so let’s start with our children.
My background is caring, working with all aspects of volunteering and community development. I‘ve had the pleasure of supporting Sunbeams Parent and Toddler Group and The Ark Pre School as Community Development Manager some years ago along with other local projects. It’s a great privilege to be on the committee and support the team do the dedicated work they do.
I am also a wife, mum and new grandma. My husband and younger son keep busy running our family run bakery which started 5 years ago in my kitchen.
I worked at Asda for 13 years, mainly in the customer service department as a Deputy Customer Service Manager where I oversaw 100 staff members, dealing with rotas, wages, holiday issues, time-keeping, money matters such as cashing up tills as well as dealing with any general public issues and queries. I have also worked in recruitment and performed full office and administrative tasks for many years.
As well as working as the pre-school administrator, I hope to bring all my relevant experience to my role as a committee member, with special emphasis on financial matters and working towards the future development of the pre-school.
